You certainly needn’t look far these days for a polished Battle Royale game to take with you on the go. Whereas most struggle to offer players a unique hook, however, Netease’s Cyber Hunter has now arrived on iOS and Android to shake up the formula for the better. It features a high emphasis on survival and exploration against a uniquely cyberpunk backdrop, with every surface being climbable.

Cyber Hunter sees you enter its futuristic map while taking on the role of a wanderer, capable of unlocking a slew of different abilities like detecting enemy signals, turning invisible and building barricades. All this is made available to you while being able to climb and overcome absolutely every surface and building in the game for an extreme parkour experience.

The vibrant setting comes fully to life thanks to Full 3D graphics and a generous level of character customisation, allowing you to personalise your wanderer with their own unique hairstyle, face-type, and outfits. How you dominate your opponent within it depends on your mastery of Cyber Hunter’s five major weapon types – SMG, Rifle, Sniper Rifle, Shotgun and Throwables – as well as its stunning array of vehicles littered across the map. Unlike the usual gamut of everyday trucks and dirt bikes found in most other battle royale titles, all of Cyber Hunter's vehicles boast their own unique set of tricks and gimmicks, such as the ability to transform into planes, boats, or even mechs.

Cyber Hunter's weapons also feature their own unique special abilities, such as shotguns that heal friendly targets, or grenades that can freeze water. Better still, every weapon can also be upgraded with Enhanced Cores to make them more powerful or to unlock new special skills.

Backing up all of this Battle Royale insanity is Cyber Hunter’s soundtrack, which has been composed by Nier: Automata’s Keiichi Okabe and Tekken’s Ryuichi Takada. This accompanying score allows the game’s cyberpunk influences to come fully to fruition, naturally changing depending on your actions as you battle to be the last wanderer standing.

This time last year we were getting hyped for the release of Stardew Valley on Nintendo Switch. Anne had not been especially enthusiastic over the idea of surrounding her flower beds with quahog shells; as a decoration they did not appeal to her on first thought. But she would not have hurt Captain Jim's feelings for anything; so she assumed a virtue she did not at first feel, and thanked him heartily. And when Captain Jim had proudly encircled every bed with a rim of the big, milk-white shells, Anne found to her surprise that she liked the effect. On a town lawn, or even up at the Glen, they would not have been in keeping, but here, in the old-fashioned, sea-bound garden of the little house of dreams, they BELONGED.
